Hydrant flushing in your area? Here is when you can do the laundry

Canal Winchester's Division of Water opens fire hydrants around the community twice each year during its fire hydrant flushing schedule. This allows water to flow through pipes, enhancing water quality by flushing sediment from mainline pipes. Flushing also verifies proper operation of hydrants and valves, and maintains firefighting capabilities. Fall fire hydrant flushing will take place between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Sept. 23 through Oct. 11.

Anyone who sees hydrant flushing crews working are asked to drive carefully and treat them like any other road construction crew. If they see a hydrant being flushed on their street, avoid running tap water, washing machine, or dishwasher until flushing in the area is complete.

During or immediately after hydrant flushing, tap water may come out with sediment that causes discoloration. Although a slight discoloration may last for a few hours, it does not affect the taste or quality of the water. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water and poses no health threat.

Canal Winchester Senior Citizens group is serving lunch on Tuesdays at 11:30 am at a cost of $3.00. The location is 45 E. Waterloo Street. Sign-up at the Center or call 614-837-8276 by noon on Friday to be included in the lunch count for the following Tuesday.

On the second Tuesday of the month the CW Senior Citizens, Inc. hold its monthly meeting and luncheon at 11:30 am.

Destination Canal Winchester announced Music in the Park will occur Sept. 20 from 6 to 9 pm.. featuring live music by Honkytonk Revival Band. Area residents are invited to enjoy this fall fest including pumpkins, a corn maze, and more. Additional free activities include an inflatable bounce house, balloon animals, live performances from the living statue, crafts and more.

The intersection of High and Waterloo will remain closed through Sept. 15 while crews work on the High Street Improvement Project. Detour signs will be posted to route around the downtown. However, visitors will still have plenty of access to the businesses in the downtown area. All parking lots and sidewalks will remain open/accessible.
